Late August

Of course it has been another month since I posted.

School has been going almost 2 weeks now (minus 1 day). Joanna is getting better at writing her name, and has practiced cutting straight lines at least twice in class. The first week, I rode her via bike trailer to/from preschool both days. The second week, I rode with the bike trailer to get her there, then I walked with the bike trailer turned stroller (all in one now) on the return trip. Guarantees 2 miles of walking, on Tues/Thurs anyway.

Jeremy is busier than he should be. He is in band this year, so is attempting to practice 30 min per day. On Tues/Thurs, he can't manage that, between getting home from cross-country practice just before 5pm, eating dinner, then needing to get football gear on for practice from 6-8pm. Last Thursday was awful, with him staying up until just after 10 to get his homework done after football practice. He will pick one sport for next fall, and not do this again. Thankfully football is over Oct 1 and cross-country is over Oct 10. It'll be his decision which to drop for next year. He still plans to run track, although not sure of which events yet, in the spring. I can't remember if it starts in Feb or March, but I know fairly early. Then of course swimming starts in late May. The exercise is good for him I know, but there is more homework in 6th grade than there was in elementary, plus the trumpet, so he's definitely got a packed schedule. Which means WE have a packed schedule too.

I got to take a little 28 hr get-away last weekend to Women of Faith in Indianapolis. It was good for some down time, time to laugh & be goofy with a group of gals.

We had a visit from Alex's mom the week before school started, right after our vacation to Minnesota/Iowa. She got to see his locker, and he showed her around the school briefly.

My mom is coming to visit today. It's a long drive, so she's still driving as I type. Jeremy has his first two cross-country meets this week, and she'll get to be here for those. Plus we have the church carnival/kick-off for our Wed night groups.

We're still trying to keep up with making most of our own food, but we have decided not to add much of anything to our list (new dinner recipes here & there, but nothing major) for now, just try to keep up. I think the list is pretty extensive already:

Cereal, dried fruit, yogurt, sandwich bread, tortillas, mini pita breads (great for the girls and Jeremy's lunches), bbq sauce, veggie broth, red sauce (used for pizzas, spaghetti etc). A few fun things as we can - potato chips, bagel chips, garlic sesame sticks. Oh yes, and granola bars. We're learning to make double batches to keep from having to make things quite as often. Some things don't work well that way (can't make 2 loaves of sandwich bread, because I only have one pullman-pan).

Of course in the midst of all this, Jessica is still potty-training. She was dry 5 out of 7 nights over the last week, overnight. Her days are decent, as long as I remember to take her to the bathroom every 45-60 min. Joanna is finally, fully day-trained, but is wet overnight still, most of the time.

I'm kind of random for this post, sorry for that. Just typing as I think of things.

I guess I'll close for now. Have a great day!
